Wix Blog: Using Your Blog to Improve Your Site's SEO

4 min read
Adding a blog to your site is a great way to boost your site's Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Search engines reward sites with good content and ones that update often. A blog allows you to easily add fresh content to your site on a regular basis.
You can optimize the SEO settings and content of your blog pages to improve your site's performance in search results.
In this article, learn more about:

Optimizing your meta tags for search results

Your site's pages include a title tag, meta description, and URL slug to help search engines and social networks show information about your pages.
Wix automatically adds default SEO settings for your blog post's title tag, meta description, and URL slug to your site. These default settings are based on the following:

  • Title tag: Your blog post's name and site name.
  • Meta description: Your blog post's description.
  • URL slug (ending of the product page URL): The blog post's name.
The title tags and meta descriptions appear in search engine results. In the example below, the title tag is in blue and the meta description is under the site address.

It's a good idea to make sure your meta tags and URL accurately reflect the content of your site. This helps users decide if the page is relevant to them. You can edit the default settings for your blog post in the your blog page's SEO Panel.

Using keywords and search phrases to rank higher

Any word or phrase typed into a search engine is a search phrase. To increase traffic to your site, it is good practice to target a few relevant search phrases - also referred to as keywords.
For example, if you run a yoga studio in Toronto, the phrase "yoga classes Toronto" may be one of your search phrases.

Adding structured data markup to improve your search results

Structured data markup gives search engines detailed information about your page. Adding structured data markup to your site's page can help improve your website's search results and ranking.
Your Wix Blog posts already come with preset markup when you create them. You can customize your structured data markup for these pages in your site's SEO Settings. Learn more about structured data

Links from other sites directed at your site are called backlinks. Gaining backlinks is a great way to boost your site's SEO, since search engines view links from popular and reputable sites as a sign that your site is also reputable.

Adding alt text to an images to improve ranking

Search engines cannot "read" images. By adding alt text to an image, you are "telling" Google and other search engines what is in your image, making it more likely to appear in an image search.
Adding alt text to images and GIFs helps drive additional traffic to your site.
