CMS (Formerly Content Manager): Connecting Text Elements to Collection Fields

Connect text elements on your site to collection fields to dynamically display content from your CMS. You continue to manage the formatting of the text elements in their settings panels. The exception is with rich text fields that you format in the fields of your collections.

You can connect text elements to the following field types: Address, Boolean, Date and Time, Number, Rich Text, Tags, Text, and URL

  1. Go to your Editor and click the text element you want to connect. 
  2. Click the Connect to CMS icon .
  3. Create a new dataset or connect an existing one: 
    • Create a new dataset: 
      1. Click Create Dataset. If you already have a dataset on your page, click the Choose a dataset drop-down and select Create a New Dataset.
      2. Click the Choose a collection drop-down and select the relevant collection. If you do not have a CMS collection yet, click Create Collection and create a new collection
      3. (Optional) Click the Dataset name field and enter a name for the dataset. 
      4. Click Create
    • Connect an existing dataset: 
      1. Click the Choose a dataset drop-down.
      2. Select the dataset you want to connect.  
  4. Click the Text connects to drop-down and select the collection field you want to connect.
    Tip: Select Item Count under Dataset Info if you want the text to display the total number of items retrieved by the dataset
  1. (If necessary) Set additional options depending on which field type you connected: 
    • Date and time: Click the Choose a format drop-down and select the format for displaying the date and time.
    • URL: Choose how the link opens: In the current window or As a new window. 
Ready to go live?
Click Preview at the top right of your Editor to test out the connections. When everything looks great and works perfectly, click Publish to make the changes go live. 

If you've enabled Sandbox, sync your Sandbox collection to the live collection to make the database changes go live.
