Accessibility: Using the Accessibility Wizard in the Studio Editor

7 min read
Improve accessibility on your client's site with the Accessibility Wizard. This tool scans the site, and displays 2 tabs that you are prompted to complete:
  • Detected issues: Issues that the wizard has detected on the site.
  • Manual tasks: Additional site settings / content that the wizard may not be able to detect.
We recommend following and completing all of the tasks to ensure your client's site is more accessible to everyone.
Important:
While Wix is always striving to improve our products and services, we cannot guarantee that your site will be compliant with your region's accessibility laws and regulations. We recommend consulting an accessibility expert to ensure that your site is meeting the standards for your region.

Scanning a site with the Accessibility Wizard

Open the wizard in your editor to begin making the site more accessible for visitors.
Before you scan a site, you can select whether you want the wizard to check and reorganize the Document Object Model (DOM) order. We recommend enabling this option, as it ensures that the wizard's scan and resulting tasks are accurate.
Good to know:
The option to organize the site's DOM does not populate if:
  • The site was created after the beginning of November 2024.
  • You have previously organized the site's DOM with the Accessibility Wizard.
  • You have disabled auto DOM on the site.

To scan a site:

  1. Click Site Checker on the left side of your editor.
  2. Select Fix Accessibility Issues.
  3. Select / de-select the option for the wizard to reorganize the site's DOM order:
    • Selected: The Accessibility Wizard scans the site's DOM order, and automatically reorganizes it as needed.
    • De-selected: The Accessibility Wizard does not scan the site's DOM order or make any changes.
  4. Click Scan Site in the panel.
The Wizard has been opened in the editor. The cursor is clicking the Scan Site button.

Fixing detected issues

The Detected issues tab displays settings that impact the entire site (e.g. the site's language and focus indicators). Each site page also has its own drop-down, ensuring a thorough scan of the site.
The Wizard provides you with solutions for each detected issue, so you don't have to leave the panel to make changes.
Select an option to learn more about the issues that can be detected.

Site level issues

The site level issues have been opened in the detected issues tab. The cursor is clicking 'Organize DOM order'/

Page issues

The drop-down for the Projects page has been opened. The cursor is clicking Organize heading structure.

Completing manual tasks

The manual tasks highlight more site settings that may need to be adjusted for accessibility. This section is not automatic, and you therefore need to manually check the site and make the necessary changes.
The cursor has clicked the Manual Tasks tab, and it's open.

Use our Accessibility Checklist to keep improving the accessibility of the site.
Have a Multilingual site?
The Accessibility Wizard is only currently supported in a site's primary language and cannot be accessed in secondary languages you add with Wix Multilingual. However, you can use our Accessibility Checklist to manually check and adjust the site in all languages.
