Wix Mobile Apps: Login Screen Visibility for Your Own App
2 min read
There are 2 different modes available for your own native mobile app's login screen - member mode and visitor mode. The mode you choose determines whether or not visitors (who are not site members) can view your app without having to sign up.
In this article, learn more about:
Member mode vs. visitor mode
With member mode, anyone who downloads your app sees the login screen as soon as they launch the app. They must sign up to your site before they can view any of the app's content.
Visitor mode allows non-members to download your own app from the app stores and partially use it without having to create an account or sign up. With visitor mode, people can get a feel of how your app works, but not all functionalities are available to them.
If visitors attempt any action that requires being logged in (e.g. making a purchase, commenting on a blog post, etc.) they are prompted to sign up for your own app and become a member.
Important:
Visitor mode is mandatory for specific types of businesses according to Apple's data collection and storage guidelines. If your business is a restaurant, has an e-commerce component such as an online store, or has a blog element, you must enable visitor mode.
Enabling visitor mode
Before you can enable visitor mode, you need to check your Roles & Permission settings in the Wix mobile app – if the Join Approval toggle is enabled, disable it. Then, you can go to your Mobile App dashboard and select visitor mode.
To enable visitor mode:
- Go to your site in the Wix app.
- Tap Manage at the bottom.
- Tap Settings, then tap Roles & Permissions.
- (If enabled) Disable the Join Approval toggle.
Note: Once the toggle is disabled, anyone can join your app without needing approval (they still need to sign up to perform most app actions).
- Go back to Mobile App in your dashboard.
- Click the tab with the name of your own mobile app.
- Click Visitor Mode under Login Screen.
