Wix Mobile Apps: Getting Started with Building Your Own App

In this article

  • FAQs
Building a native mobile app with Wix gives you access to premium features which lets you design and manage your mobile app directly through your Wix account. Having your own app, with no Wix branding, allows you to give the most personalized experience for your app users. For example, if you own a small bakery, you can design your app to reflect your brand, share daily specials, take orders, and send push notifications about new products or events. This helps keep your customers engaged and encourages repeat business.

Start by adding a few basic details, then preview your app with a QR code. Then, you can edit your design anytime from your desktop or the Wix app. Once your app is ready, submit it to the App Store and Google Play. After it gets approved, your app will go live in the stores.
Mobile App Premium plan:
Building and customizing your app is free. To publish it in the App Store and Google Play, first design your app and then upgrade to a Mobile App Premium plan.

Setting up your app for the first time

Begin by naming your app, uploading an icon, choosing a theme, and selecting a navigation layout. You can update these elements anytime to keep your app always aligned with your brand. Once users download your app, the app name will appear beneath its icon on their home screen.
Note:
Start building your app from the Mobile App dashboard on a desktop. After this initial setup, you can customize your app's layout and content from either your desktop or the Wix app.

To design your app's theme and logo:

  1. Go to Mobile App in your dashboard.
  2. Click the Your own mobile app tab.
  3. Click Get Started.
  4. Enter your app's name and upload an image as your app icon, then click Next.
Note: Make sure your app name complies with Apple and Google's guidelines to avoid your app from being rejected.
  5. Choose a theme by selecting a preset combination of colors and fonts, then click Next.
Tip: As you update your app, preview changes on the right side of the screen. Learn more about designing your app.
  6. Choose a navigation layout for your app: Bottom tab bar or Top tab bar. Then click Next.
  7. Scan the QR code to preview your site with the Wix app, then click Continue to Edit App.
