Connect Text

Connecting to a dataset links the text element to the CMS collection where each item's content is stored.

Click the Choose a dataset drop-down and select a dataset that connects to the relevant collection. If needed, select Add a dataset, then select the relevant collection and give the dataset a name. 

Once you've connected the dataset, click the Text connects to drop-down and select the field you want to dynamically display in the element. You can also connect a text color by clicking the Text color connects to drop-down and select the relevant 'Color' field type.

Click the Text connects to drop-down and select the specific field from the dataset's connected collection that you want the text element to display. This collection field should contain the text you want to show on your site.

Yes. First, select the dataset that connects to your CMS collection. Then, click the Text connects to drop-down and select Add new field. Enter a field name, field key (coding only), and choose from the following field types: Text, Number, URL, Boolean, Date and Time, Time, Rich Text, Address, and Tags. Click Add to create the field and connect the text element to it. 

Later, you can add the new field's content from the CMS collection. This content will dynamically display in the text element depending on which item is read by the dataset. 

Yes, from the dataset settings, you can apply filters to control which items appear in the text element. This is useful for displaying specific subsets of your data. Learn more about adding filters to your dataset. 

The 'Colors' section allows you to set a different text color for connected text. This lets you customize the text color for every item in your collection. Learn more about connecting a 'Color' field from your CMS collection.

To disconnect text, click the Text connects to drop-down and select Not connected. This removes the connection between the text element and the dataset, reverting the text to static content.

Ensure that your dataset is correctly connected to the relevant collection and the relevant collection field. Also, check if any filters are applied that might restrict the data being displayed. Learn more about troubleshooting CMS connections.

These connection options are used for the messages that display when visitors click a 'Submit' button that connects to input elements that make up a custom CMS form. The 'Submit' button's success and failure messages appear when the form is submitted successfully or unsuccessfully.

Click the Choose a format drop-down and select a format for displaying the date and time. For example, you could choose a short date format that renders a date and time field as "10/31/24". Or you could choose a full date time format that renders the same field as "Thursday, October 31, 2024 at 12:12:12 PM PDT".

Datasets are the vital link between the elements on your page and the content in your CMS collection. You can use datasets to create a two-way connection, allowing you to display collection content, capture user inputs, or both. 

Datasets allow you to control which parts of your page elements connect to which fields in your collection. Each dataset connects to a collection and each element connected to the dataset connects to a field in the collection. This unlocks a new way of managing which content appears and where.
