Here are some commonly asked questions about creating your own native app with Wix.
General FAQs
What's the process of building my own app with Wix?
First you'll design your app (including its name, logo, look and feel) from the
Mobile App Builder in your site's dashboard. Once your app is designed you can preview it for free on your mobile device. If you like the way it works,
purchase a Mobile App Premium plan and follow the steps to publish your app on the Google Play and App Store.
Is this app a native app or a web app?
When you create an app with Wix, it's built as a native app. This means it's developed using the device's native language, providing a smoother user experience.
If I build my own app, does it replace the existing mobile version of my site?
No, your own mobile app will be available in addition to the mobile version of your website. The Wix mobile app is a fully native app that can be downloaded from app stores. Site visitors accessing your site from a mobile browser can still view the mobile version.
When I make changes to my Wix site, does my app automatically update?
Your app is linked to your site's dashboard. That means any changes or edits you make on the dashboard are reflected in your own mobile app. This includes adding items to your online store, new bookings or services, or creating new blog posts.
However, any content or design changes you make directly from the editor won't affect your app's design.
How do I access the Mobile App dashboard?
The Mobile App dashboard is located in your Wix account. Click the
Start Now button to start creating your app.
Go to Mobile App Builder in your site's dashboard now.
How do I publish my own mobile app?
After you've designed your app in the
Mobile App Builder in your site's dashboard, you'll follow the steps to open both an Apple and Google developer account. This process is done on Apple and Google's side and can take a few business days to be approved.
Once your account is approved, you'll finish registering your app from your app overview in the
Mobile App dashboard and submit your app to Wix for approval. Once that's submitted, we'll submit it to the relevant app stores.
Can my app be viewed in multiple languages?
You can change the default language of your own mobile app. Your users can still choose their preferred language from their user profiles. Learn how to change your app's language
in Step 2 of this article.
Note: Wix Mobile App does not currently support multilingual.
Can I migrate my existing users from my member app to my own app?
If you're using an existing Wix member app to communicate with your users (Spaces by Wix, Fit by Wix or Dine by Wix), there's no migration required.
Your users will get a notification in their app asking them to download your new mobile app. Learn how to switch your
preferred member app.
Can I only publish my app in one app store (e.g. only Apple's App Store and not Google Play?)
Currently you must register your app in both stores.
What is the difference between my own Wix Mobile app and Spaces by Wix?
The main difference between your own Wix Mobile app and Spaces by Wix is that the Wix Mobile app has no Wix branding and is only for your business and community. Your users download your app directly from the App Store and Google Play rather than downloading a Wix app and engaging with your site from there.
What are the available languages for building a Wix Mobile app?
The Wix Mobile app is available in the following languages:
Arabic, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish and Ukrainian.
Can my app users/I use my mobile app offline?
No, the Wix Mobile app requires an online connection. Currently it is not possible to use the app offline and then have the content sync once the device is online again.
Purchasing a Mobile App Premium plan
What is included in a Mobile App Premium plan?
Does my mobile app plan include membership fees to Apple's App Store and Google Play?
No, the plan does not include the registration fees and you must pay those separately. Apple's App Store membership fees start at $99 USD a year, and Google Play is a $25 USD one-time fee.
What happens to my app if I cancel my Mobile App Premium plan?
After your app is live, if you decide to cancel your subscription Wix automatically removes your app from the app stores. If your users try to use the app they will be notified that the app is no longer available for use.
Can I assign my Mobile App Premium plan to a different site in my account?
Yes. After you purchase a Mobile App Premium plan, it is possible to assign it to another site in your account.
- Go to Premium Subscriptions in your Wix account.
- Click the Show More icon next to your mobile app plan.
- Click Assign to a Different Site.
- Select the checkbox next to the relevant site.
- Click Next.
- Click Assign to confirm.
Can I transfer my Mobile App Premium plan from one Wix account to another Wix account?
Yes. Since your own native mobile app is connected to a Wix site, you can change ownership by transferring the premium site associated with your mobile app to another Wix account. Learn how to
transfer a premium site to another account.
Submitting your mobile app for review
What happens after I submit my app?
- We will review your application to make sure it follows Apple and Google's compliance guidelines. If we see something that needs changing, we'll notify you within 7 business days.
- Once your app passes our internal review, we submit the app to Apple and Google on your behalf. Once Apple and Google approve the app, it will be released to app stores. The upload process can take up to 3 days.
Note: Your mobile app is subject to Apple and Google's approval. Wix has no control over whether it will be approved or rejected by Apple and Google.
How long does it take for Apple and Google to approve my app?
The approval process varies from platform to platform and Wix has no control over the timeline.
What happens if I get emails from Apple and Google?
As part of the Mobile App Premium plan, Wix takes care of your app's submission to the stores as well as the app's maintenance and compliance with any new policies. During this process you may receive emails from Apple and Google. These emails require no action from you.
What if my app is not approved by Apple and/or Google?
If your application does not pass Apple or Google's review, Wix gets notified. We'll then inform you why your app has not been approved and ask you to make the necessary changes.
Once you've made the changes, you will have to resubmit your app to Wix for approval, and then again to Apple and Google.
Learn how to resubmit your app.
How do app updates work once my app is live in the app stores?
