Moving a Connected Domain (Purchased Elsewhere) from One Wix Account to Another

4 min read
It is not possible to add the same domain name to more than one Wix account at a time. If you're trying to connect a domain that was purchased outside of Wix and is currently in another Wix account, you must first remove the domain from its current account, then add it to the new account.
Moving a Wix domain to another account?
The directions in this article apply to domains purchased outside of Wix. If you have a Wix domain and need to move it to another account, transfer your domain to the other Wix account

Step 1 | Remove the domain from your Wix account

Log in to the Wix account where your domain is currently located, copy the DNS records, and remove the domain from the account. This will allow you to add the domain in the other Wix account where you want it connected.

To remove a domain from your account:

  1. Sign in to the Wix account where your domain is currently added.
  2. Go to the Domains page in the account.
Note: If you have more than one domain in your account, scroll to the relevant domain.
  3. Copy your domain's DNS records.
Note: If your domain is connected by Pointing, skip ahead to step 4.
4.  Click the More Actions icon  on the right and select Remove from Wix.

5.  Click Remove Domain.

Step 2 | Add the domain to another Wix account

Sign in to the Wix account where you want the domain to be connected. You can use an incognito window to sign in if you want to remain signed in to both accounts at the same time. Then add the domain, choose an upgraded site to connect and set up the connection.

To add the domain to a different Wix account:

  1. Sign in to the Wix account you're adding the domain within.
  2. Go to the Domains page in the account.
  3. Click Connect a domain you already own.
Note: If you already have a domain in your account, click Add an Existing Domain, then select Connect a domain you already own.
  4. Select the site you want to connect your domain to and click Continue.
  5. Enter your domain name and click Let's Go, then Yes, I own this domain.
  6. Follow the step-by-step instructions provided to set up the domain records in your domain host account.
Note: If you're connecting your domain via pointing and not nameservers, click the Pointing option at the top of the page, then click Switch to Pointing Instructions. You can use the copied DNS records from step 1 to add the records in the new account too.

  7. Click Verify Connection.
Can't access your account?
You can fill out the account recovery form if you are unable to access the account your domain is currently connected to.
