A segment is a specific group of contacts. Segments help you group contacts based on the criteria that matter to your business, such as customer details, purchase behavior, or site activity. This makes it easier to understand your audience, send more relevant marketing campaigns, and build stronger customer relationships.

Know your customer base
Get to know your contacts by grouping them into segments based on the details and actions that matter to your business. You can build segments using contact information, customer behavior, and interactions on your site.
Segments update automatically as contact data changes, so the right people move in and out of each group without any manual work. This helps you keep your lists accurate and relevant over time.
Use segments to spot patterns in your audience, send more targeted email campaigns, create automations for specific groups, and tailor your marketing to different stages of the customer journey.
Suggested segments cards help you quickly turn common contact groups, such as email subscribers or engaged contacts, into active segments.
Wix tracks many types of contact activity on your site, for example, newsletter signups, purchases, and page views. You can use this data to target contacts based on the actions they take.

Tip:
You can add custom fields to your contacts to enable you to collect additional customer information. These custom fields can also be used as segment filters.
Group your customers in very specific ways
When you create segments, you're organizing your contacts into groups built from specific filters and criteria.
To create a segment, your contacts are filtered by different types of data such as contact details, site activity, email engagement, and store activity. Once you've decided on your filter, you add conditional logic (is equal to, is less than, etc). Depending on the filter, you might also choose a value and/or a timeframe.
For example, you can create a segment of customers who opened your email campaign and visited your site recently, but have not made a purchase in the last 60 days.

Take inspiration from our suggested templates
Ensure your segments are specific to your business goals. Choose from suggested segment templates to get started. The templates are grouped by category, making it easier to find one that matches your business goal. For example, you can create a segment of contacts who subscribed to your email campaigns, or focus on engaged subscribers who recently clicked an email.

Target the right customers at the right time
Segments help you send more relevant messages based on each contact’s behavior and interests.
Once you're happy with a segment you've created, you can create and send an email campaign.
From the Contacts Overview, you can create useful segments in one click and start organizing your audience right away. Use the suggested audience cards to quickly turn common contact groups, such as email subscribers or contacts engaged with emails, into active segments without building filters manually. You can also pin the audiences that matter most to your business so they stay visible and easy to access as you track and manage your contacts.

Automations with Segments
Combine Segments with Wix Automations to respond automatically when contacts move into or out of a specific group. This helps you stay connected with the right people at the right time, without managing each follow-up manually.
You can use segment-based triggers such as 'Contact enters segment' and 'Contact leaves segment' to start an automation. For example, when a contact enters a segment of engaged email subscribers, you can send a follow-up email. If a contact leaves a segment, you can trigger a different flow, such as removing them from a campaign or updating the way you communicate with them.
Using automations with segments helps you build more relevant customer journeys based on real behavior and changing contact data.
