Adding a Favicon Image to Your Site's Pages in Search Results

2 min read
Your site's favicon is the image that appears next to your site's URL in search results. Your visitors also see your favicon in the browser tab when they view your site on desktop. A favicon is one of the main reference images for your site, which is why most companies use their own logo.

Adding a favicon to your site

You can add a favicon for your site in the Website Settings section of your dashboard.
Don't have a favicon?
You can create a personalized or branded favicon with Wix Logo.

To add a favicon:

  1. Go to Settings in your site's dashboard.
  2. Click Website Settings.
  3. Click Update Image under Favicon.
  4. Select an image, or click Upload Images to upload one from your computer.
  5. Click Choose File.
  6. Click Save.
Tips for a good quality favicon:
  • Make sure your favicon looks good at a resolution of 16x16px as Google rescales favicons to that size. The Wix Photo Studio can help you edit image.
  • Use a .jpg or .png image file.
  • Your favicon should be a 1:1 image ratio (a square shape). Google recommends a multiple of 48px square, e.g. 48x48px, 96x96px, 144x144px etc.

Updating your favicon in search results

After you add a favicon or update it, search engines will update their version the next time that they crawl your site.

If you want to try to speed up the process, you can submit your homepage's URL to search engines.
If your favicon still does not appear in search results after some time, make sure that search engines can index your homepage. Learn how to enable this in Editor and Editor X.
Note:
Google will not show any favicon that it deems inappropriate.
