Site Performance: Optimizing Your Media

You should upload the best possible quality images that you can and we will optimize them to the exact dimensions displayed on the screen, without any loss of quality. For best results, upload images of at least 2560 X 1440 pixels in resolution. 

Wix automatically optimizes your images for best online quality and fast download. This means that, unless your file is over 25MB, you do not need to resize or compress it before uploading. 

Site pages can frequently be several screens long. Background images of this size take a long time to load, and can cause a delay. We recommend splitting these background images into sections that are roughly the same length of a screen. This gives the other images time to load as visitors scroll down your page. 

Galleries are optimized to showcase multiple media files at once. We recommend having one gallery with several media items per page, as opposed to multiple galleries with less items. This is because having too many elements on a single page (even if the elements are identical) can affect site performance.

While galleries can handle a large amount of content inside them, showcasing a lot of media at once can affect page performance. We recommend enabling a "Load More" button, as it will give your images time to load while also encouraging interaction from your site visitors. Learn More

We recommend that your gallery is placed below the fold of the page (the section visitors can't see without scrolling). This improves page performance, while drawing your visitors' attention to your site's main message. As the content above the fold is loaded first, moving your gallery down ensures that your visitors have valuable content to read while the rest of your site loads.

Videos that are embedded in the Single Video Player (Youtube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Facebook), are iframes and the content delivered is not coming from the Wix servers. This means Wix cannot optimize it. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn't use them; but we recommend avoiding overuse of them on your page, especially above the fold.
