Pricing products effectively is an essential part of running a successful online store. This article will guide you through the different types of pricing settings that are available.
Setting the price of products and variants
While creating a product, you'll enter the product price in the Pricing section. If you create product options, you'll manage the product price and other pricing settings per option (even if they're all sold at the same price).
To set product and variant prices:
- Go to Products in your site's dashboard.
- Create a new product or edit an existing one.
- In the Pricing section, enter the product price.

- (Optional) Edit pricing for product variants you created.
- Click Edit Variants.
- Edit the price of any variants.
- Click Apply & Continue.

Add a strikethrough price
You can add a strikethrough price to indicate to customers that a product's price was previously higher. For example, when the price is $44 and the strikethrough price is $56, this is what your customers see in your shop.

Tip:
The strikethrough price is just a display price. It's not linked to the product price.
To add a strikethrough price:
- Go to Products in your site's dashboard.
- Create a new product or edit an existing one.
- In the Pricing section, enter the strikethrough price.
- (Optional) Edit the strikethrough price for product variants you created.
- Click Edit Variants.
- Edit the strikethrough price of any variants.
- Click Apply & Continue.
Calculating cost of goods
The cost of goods is the amount it costs you to produce or purchase a product. It's used to calculate your profit and margin, helping you make informed business decisions.
After entering a product's price and the cost of goods, your profit and margin are calculated automatically.
Tips:
For products with options, the cost of goods is calculated per variant.
After setting up the cost of goods, any changes to a product's price, like cost increases or sales, automatically update the profit and margin calculations
To calculate cost of goods:
- Go to Products in your site's dashboard.
- Create a new product or edit an existing one.
- In the Pricing section, enter your cost under Cost of goods.

- (Optional) Manage cost of goods for product variants you created:
- Click Edit Variants.
- Scroll right and edit the cost of goods for any of the variants.
- Click Apply & Continue.
Tip:
If you don't see the cost of goods fields, you can customize the columns to add them (see the FAQ below).
Displaying a price per unit
Price per unit is a display of product pricing based on weight or volume, ensuring transparency for customers. After setup, it updates automatically when prices change.
If a product has product options, the price per unit is managed separately for each variant.

Tip:
Displaying a price per unit is required in some countries.
To set up a price per unit display:
- Go to Products in your site's dashboard.
- Create a new physical product or edit an existing one.
- In the Pricing section, click the Show price per unit toggle to enable it.
- Under Total product quantity in units, select the relevant type of unit (e.g. ounces) from the drop-down.
Tip: You can switch between metric and imperial units in your regional settings. - Under Base unit, enter the unit you want to measure by (e.g. enter 1 ounce to display a price per ounce).
- Under Total units in product, enter the total product quantity (e.g. if you are selling a 5-ounce jar, enter "5").

- (Optional) Manage price per unit for product variants you created:
- Click Edit Variants.
- Scroll right and edit the Base unit or Total units in variant for any of the variants.
- Click Apply & Continue.
The price per unit is calculated automatically and appears on your live site under the product price. Once the price per unit is set up, it updates automatically when you change the product price or add a sale price.
Displaying product price as a price range
If you created product options with different prices, you can indicate that the price has a range.

To display prices as a price range:
- Go to Store products & inventory settings in your site's dashboard.
- Scroll down and click the Show "From" next to the price toggle to enable it.
