Angie is a small business owner. She sells custom vegan cakes for special events. A few years ago she set up a Wix site showcasing her cakes and prices using Menus, making it easy for customers to explore her selection.
As part of a revamping project on her site, she decided to install the new Wix Menus app, so she can use new features like translations and contemporary designs that the app offers.
To save time, Angie imported her menu. Since the new app has a different setup, her extra toppings weren't transferred over. It still saved her a lot of time and she discovered new capabilities the app has to showcase her menus.
Understanding the new terminology
In the new Menus app, you'll notice some of the terms have been updated. For example, dishes are now referred to as items. . The table below lists the differences.

Understanding how the import works
When importing your menu to the new app, certain parts of the data are not copied over. Understanding what is included and excluded from the import empowers you to make informed decisions for your business.

All menus are imported with their name and description, and set as draft by default.
All sections are imported, including those marked as hidden.
All items are imported with their name, description and image. Items shared between a few menus remain shared.
- Only the first Selection under Dish Options is copied as a variant (for example: Toppings).
- If your dish option has over 20 choices, just the first 20 choices will copied to the new app (for example: Under Toppings - If you have 25 toppings, only the first 20 will be imported).
- The copied choices will appear under Price Variants in the new app.
- The new app doesn't group the choices (for example: Toppings will not be under a group name called Toppings, but presented as a list).
- The Dish Options types: Extras and Deselection are not copied.

Deselection are not copied because the Menus (New) app doesn't use modifiers. However, if you're using the Wix Restaurant Orders (New) app, you can
add modifiers to your menu items.

Labels are imported, with some automated changes to terminology, as follows:
- VG - Vegetarian
- Spicy 1 - Mild
- Spicy 2 - Hot
- Spicy 3 - Extra hot
Specials are imported and are now marked with a star ★
Archived information is not imported to the new app.
Online Orders properties (e.g. taxes, stock status, accepting special requests) are not imported to the new app.

I have different menus for different locations, can I import them?
Yes, but first, create a menu for each location by adding the location's name as a suffix for easy identification. On your live site you can
select which menus to show accordingly.
No, you can not stop the import while it's working, but you can delete the menus from the new site once the import is done.
