Wix Payments: The Difference Between Account Types

Note: Partnerships in Austria may be asked to provide a Firmenbuchnummer when setting up their Wix Payments account. Business bank account details and a physical address are also required. Associations in Austria may be asked to provide a Zentrales Vereinsregister Zahl.

Note: Sole proprietors in Italy are required to submit a codice fiscale number when setting up their Wix Payments account. Acceptable ID, bank account details and a physical address are also required.

Note: Corporations and other registered entities in the Netherlands may be asked to provide a KvK Business Number when setting up their Wix Payments account. Business bank account details, a physical address and a list of company directors may also be required.

Note: Sole proprietors in Switzerland may submit a BID / UID number when setting up their Wix Payments account. Acceptable ID, bank account details and a physical address are also required.

Note: UK sole traders are required to submit a Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) number when setting up their Wix Payments account. Acceptable ID, bank account details and a physical address are also required.

If your non-governmental organization doesn't have an EIN or any other company registration ID, it is not possible to create a business account. Wix does not support unregistered charities in compliance with our prohibited products and services. As an alternative, you can check other payment providers available in your region to see if they support your NGO type. 

An individual is someone who is not officially registered as running a business. You sign up in your own name and use a personal bank account, and you usually do not have a business registration number.

A sole proprietor is registered as self‑employed (for example, as a freelancer). You are still one person, but you are registered as a sole proprietor. You might have a business bank account or use a personal account, and you might also have a business registration number, depending on your country.

The information you include in your account set up must match the documents you provided. If not, the verification will fail and your payouts are put on hold.

In some cases, yes. For example, you may start with an individual account and later register a company, or want payouts to go to a business bank account. If your account can be changed online, you see an option on the Edit Account Details page in your Wix Payments settings. If you do not see this option, follow the message in your account to contact Customer Care.

When you submit an account type change, your payouts are put on hold while your new details are reviewed. You can keep accepting payments from your customers, but new payments remain pending until your account is verified with the new details. After verification is complete, payouts are enabled again and include those pending payments.

Changing your account type can affect how your transactions are reported for tax purposes. In some cases, you may receive more than one 1099-K form if your payments were processed under different account setups. Learn more about getting a 1099-K form from Wix Payments.
