FAQs: Google, Wix and the GDPR
3 min read
When using Google products in conjunction with your Wix site, you should be aware that Google shares data between its global servers, including between the EU and the United States. This data sharing has implications for your site and your compliance with the GDPR.
Click on the frequently asked questions below to learn more about Google products and their use within Wix.
Can I use Google Fonts on my Wix site?
In a recent decision, a regional court in Munich ruled that the “dynamic use” of Google Fonts violates the EU GDPR. This is due to the fact that your visitor's IP address could be transmitted to Google's servers in the United States.
Wix has developed an in-house solution to remedy this issue. Google Fonts are now hosted locally within Wix. This means that no IP data is transmitted from the EU to Google's servers in the United States.
Note: If you add fonts to your site using alternative methods such as custom embeds, custom elements or iframes, they may contain Google Fonts and we cannot guarantee that these will be hosted locally.

As an alternative to Google Analytics, you can use Wix Analytics. The data collected by Wix Analytics will depend on, and be aligned with, your visitor's allowance of cookies:
- By enabling the Wix Cookie Banner, only essential cookies are placed on your visitor's device, if they choose. Wix Analytics relies only on essential cookies or, additionally, cookies placed on your visitors' devices following their consent.
- Traffic reports rely on Analytics cookies that were consented to by your site visitors, either via clicking Accept on the banner, or by clicking Cookie Settings and then approving Analytics cookies specifically.
- The Wix Analytics reports for Sales and People rely on essential cookies, such as the log-in cookie - which helps a person to sign-in as a site member - and on server data such as transactions, new contacts, and site members added to your CRM.
