Branded App: Guidelines for Naming Your App
1 min read
When choosing a name for your Branded App, make sure it follows the naming guidelines for both Apple's App Store and Google Play.
Your Branded App name must not include:
- Any special characters (e.g. #,@,&) or emojis
- Prices or pricing information (e.g. 'Free app!')
- Trademarked names or data
- Names already used in popular apps or references to other apps
- Inappropriate or irrelevant content
- Names over the 30 character limit
Tips for choosing a name that won't be rejected:
- Pick a unique name that accurately describes your app and its content.
- Choose a name that is simple and easy for your users to remember.
- Don't try to 'game the system' as Apple says by using popular or existing app names to draw more attention to your app.
- Reflect the app's core features in the name
- Check the availability of the name before you submit. This includes all social media handles and domain names as well.
Tip:
Your app's subtitle (which you'll pick in the Store Listings section of your branded dashboard) is a great way to add additional context to your app without including it in the name itself.
