Wix Multilingual Request: Changing Your Site's Main Language
Working on it
ETA: Q4 - 2025
With Wix Multilingual, your site is set up with one main language and any number of secondary languages. Currently, it’s not possible to change your site’s main language after it’s been set.
If you want your visitors to experience a different language version of your site, try these workarounds:
Workarounds:
- Set a default visitor language: The default visitor language is the first language visitors see on your site, which may differ from the site's original language. Visitors can switch to other languages at any time.
- You can enable the Auto-switch language toggle, and automatically redirect visitors to the language version of your site that matches their browser's language.
- Delete Wix Multilingual and re-add it. This allows you to start from the beginning and choose a new main language. We recommend duplicating your site before deleting Wix Multilingual. This will help you later on when you re-add Wix Multilingual. You can refer to the duplicate for your previous translations and site design/layout.
Note: When you delete Wix Multilingual and re-add it, your purchased word credits will not be restored, and you may need to purchase more word credits to automatically translate your site.
If you want to change your site’s main language for reasons such as SEO or accidentally choosing the wrong language, let us know by voting for this feature request.
We are always working to update and improve our products, and your feedback is greatly appreciated.
