Wix Multilingual: Managing Your Languages

Add locales to adjust your site's text for different physical areas of the same language. Locales align your site's content with the distinct needs of your target audience. For example, set versions of your site for English in England (en-GB) and in Ireland (en-IE). Each version will get its own URL and regional formats (e.g., metric vs. imperial systems).

The default visitor language is the first language visitors see on your site, which may differ from the site's original language. Visitors can switch to other languages at any time.

Having control over the default language allows you to tailor the user experience for your site visitors, especially if a specific language is more relevant to your audience or your business.

For example, if your main business language is English but most of your site visitors speak Spanish, you could ensure their default view is in Spanish to create a more welcoming and engaging experience.

Any time you add a secondary language, it is hidden by default. When you finish translating that language and are happy with how it looks, unhide it to show it to the world.

Click the Status drop-down next to the relevant language and select an option:

When you delete a language, its translations, and any changes you made to that language are permanently deleted.

Export and import your site content for manual translation. By downloading a CSV file, you can send your content to a professional translator. Once the translations are ready, import the translated content back to your site.

Changing the main language is designed for situations where you chose the wrong original language when you first set up Wix Multilingual, or your business has switched to a different primary language.

If you set all secondary languages to "Hidden", the language menu does not appear on your live site.

Currently, it is not possible to change your site's main language to a different language. If this is a feature you'd like to use, vote for it here.

Workarounds: 

To make sure your automations work for every language on your site, create a separate automation for each language you support. Use dynamic values and set up your email templates in the right language for each group. Double-check that the trigger for each automation (like a form submission) is connected to the correct version of your page or form.

Automated actions, such as scheduled emails or reminders, use the time zone set in your site's regional settings. If times seem off, check your site’s regional settings to make sure the right time zone is selected.

Automated emails usually follow either your site’s default language or the recipient’s language preferences. If your emails are appearing in the wrong language, start by checking your site’s language settings and the specific email template you’re using. For multilingual sites, remember to set up a separate automation for each language, and make sure to target the right contacts for each one.
