Wix Blocks: From Velo Packages to Apps with Code Files

3 min read
You can now build your own private apps using Wix Blocks. These apps, formerly known as "Velo packages built by you," used to contain only code. Now, this feature is extended and allows you to build apps that contain code, widgets, data collections and Dashboard pages. You can build custom pieces of software with specific functionalities and use it across multiple sites. You can also choose to publish these apps to the Wix App Market.

Here are the main changes you should notice in this transition:

Find and manage your apps

There are two ways to open your apps to manage them, or create new apps:

  • From Packages & Apps  icon in the Site Structure menu in any one of your sites.
  • From Private Apps in the App Market  menu in any one of your sites.
  • Your apps will no longer appear in the previous Package Manager.
  • When your app is installed on a site, its folder will only display the Readme and the config files. You can view or edit the app and all of its files in the Blocks workspace.

Managing minor versions

  • When you release a minor version, it will automatically update in any site it's installed on.
  • You can no longer install a fixed minor version on a site.
  • If your app is installed as a fixed minor version on any site, it will continue to work as usual. However, once you update it to another version, it will shift to auto-udpate mode and you won't be able to use a specific minor version of your app anymore.
