You can connect a domain purchased from Wix to any site, even if it's hosted on another platform. To do this, edit the DNS records in your Wix account so they point to your external site.
Pointing your domain in this way means that when someone enters your Wix domain in their browser, they see the site that is hosted externally.
Step 1 | Get the DNS details from your external host
Contact your external site host and ask for the DNS records you need to use. They should give you the A record (Host) and CNAME record (Alias) they want you to connect to.
Note:
Let your site host know you want to point your Wix domain to your site without changing name servers. It is not possible to change the name servers of a Wix domain.
Ask your host for:
- The A record your root domain should point to. They should provide you with an IP address, and may also provide a host name.
- The CNAME record your www address should point to. They should provide a host name and a domain.
Step 2 | Update your A records
Your A records connect your domain to an IP address. Your host will most likely give you one IP address that your main domain should point to. However, you can add multiple A records if necessary.
Important:
Make sure to delete any old A records after adding your new ones to avoid a conflict between records. Click the More Actions icon next to the relevant record and click Delete.
To update your A records:
- Go to Domains in your Wix account.
- Click the Domain Actions icon
next to the relevant domain. - Select Manage DNS Records.

- Click + Add Record in the A (Host) section.
- In the Host Name field, enter the host name.
Note: Leave this field blank if instructed to add an @ sign. - In the Value field, enter the IP address your host gave you.
- Click Save.
- Click Save Changes in the pop-up message.
Step 3 | Update your CNAME records
Your CNAME records map the www version of your domain (or any subdomains you have) to your canonical domain name.
Important:
Make sure to delete any old CNAME records after adding your new ones to avoid a conflict between records. Click the More Actions icon next to the relevant record and click Delete.
To update your CNAME records:
- Go to Domains in your Wix account.
- Click the Domain Actions icon
next to the relevant domain. - Select Manage DNS Records.

- Click + Add Record in the CNAME (Aliases) section.
- In the Host Name field, enter a host name.
Note: For your main www address, enter www as the host name if instructed by your host. - In the Value field, enter the web address your host gave you.
- Click Save.
- Click Save Changes in the pop-up message.
