Roles & Permissions: Creating and Managing Custom Roles for Collaborators

Create your own collaborator roles or edit existing roles to cover exactly what you need.
Collaborator roles determine what people you invite to work with you can access in your site and dashboard. Pre-defined roles, such as Website Designer and Marketing Manager have set permissions. You can duplicate and edit a role to make changes to the permissions, or create a new role from scratch.
Note:
Currently, not all permissions are available when creating custom roles.

Creating a custom role
Create a brand new custom role to provide your collaborators the access they need.
To create a new custom role:
- Go to Roles & Permissions in your site's dashboard.
- Click Manage Roles.
- Click + Create New Role.
- In Role Details, enter the Role Title and a Description of the role.
- Under Permissions, click an action to view the specific permissions for that action. Select the checkboxes for the permissions you want to include in the custom role.
Notes:
- You can use the Filter search bar to find more actions.
- If all permissions within a category are required, click Select All.
- Some actions automatically enable other permissions. For example, if you let someone manage your orders, they can view your contacts by default.
- Click Save.
Duplicating and editing an existing role
You can duplicate an existing role, and edit the permissions to suit your needs.
To duplicate and edit a role:
- Go to Roles & Permissions in your site's dashboard.
- Click Manage Roles.
- Click the More Actions icon next to the role you want to duplicate.
- Select Duplicate & Edit.
- In Role Details, enter the Role Title and a Description of the role.
- Click to expand the permissions categories to view, select, and deselect actions for the role.
- Click Save.
Assigning a custom role to a collaborator
You can assign a custom role when you send an invite to collaborate, and change roles at a later date when needed.
To assign a custom role:
- Go to Roles & Permissions in your site's dashboard.
- Click the More Actions icon next to the relevant collaborator.
- Click Change Role.
- Select a custom role.
- Click Save.
Editing permissions in a custom role
You can edit custom roles as collaborator responsibilities on your site evolve over time.
To edit permissions in a custom role:
- Go to Roles & Permissions in your site's dashboard.
- Click Manage Roles.
- Hover over the custom role you want to update, and click Edit.
- Click to expand the permissions categories to view, select, and deselect actions for the role.
- Click Save.
