Troubleshooting a Failed Domain Transfer to Wix

2 min read
If your domain transfer to Wix fails, the following message appears on your Domains page:
A screenshot showing an example of a failed domain transfer error message in a Wix account.
This message means your domain didn't transfer to Wix. This could happen if your domain is locked from transferring, or if you entered an invalid authorization code (EPP key) in the process
Important:
You are automatically refunded for your domain registration payment if your transfer fails. The refund appears on your credit card statement within 20 business days.
In this article, learn how to troubleshoot:

Troubleshooting a locked domain issue

Your domain could be locked from transferring for the following reasons:
  • Your domain had the transfer lock enabled with your current registrar.
  • It hasn't been 60 days yet since you registered or last transferred your domain.
  • It hasn't been 60 days yet since you changed your domain's registrant information.
Did you know?
There are times when you are temporarily not allowed to move your domain. Learn more in our article, ICANN's 60 day lock policy.

To resolve a locked domain issue:

  1. Verify with your current registrar that your domain can be transferred.
  2. (Once your domain is unlocked) Try transferring your domain again.
Tip:
If you're unable to transfer your domain at this time, you can still connect it to Wix without transferring

Troubleshooting invalid EPP key issues

EPP (Extensible Provisioning Protocol) keys are used to enable the transfer of a domain from one registrar to another.  If you did not enter this authorization code correctly, your domain will not transfer. Follow the steps below to ensure you enter the EPP key accurately.

To resolve an invalid EPP key issue:

  1. Repeat the transfer process, making sure that you have:
    • Entered your domain name correctly.
    • Entered the exact authorization code received from your current domain host.
    • Removed any spaces after pasting the authorization code.
  2. (If the issue persists) Contact your current domain host and confirm that you are using the correct code / ask for a new one.
