Wix provides you with a platform to create websites to reach your online audience. In the event of a dispute between several parties, Wix will determine site ownership by using established guidelines.
We reserve the right to determine and/or grant ownership to an account or site based on our reasonable judgment, whether or not an independent investigation has been conducted by us.
To determine ownership of a Wix account or site, keep the following in mind.
Wix account ownership
Typically, the owner of a Wix account is identified by the email address listed in Wix’s records.
If there’s a dispute over account ownership, Wix may:
- Investigate and determine ownership using its judgment.
- Request proof, like an ID or business license.
- Suspend the account until all parties resolve the issue.
Free site ownership
The owner of any sites or content is the owner of the Wix account under which the content was created. In most cases, the owner of the account is considered to be the person or entity who has access to the email address listed in Wix's records.
Upgraded (Premium / Studio) site ownership
If a Premium or Studio site plan was purchased, ownership is typically tied to the billing details of the person or entity used to make the payment.
A payment method connected to a Wix account can be removed if the owner of the payment method wishes it to be disconnected.
Domain ownership
When a domain is connected to a Wix account, Wix may:
- Recognize the domain registrant (listed in databases like ICANN) as the domain’s owner.
- If billing details and domain owner details conflict, Wix may prioritize the domain’s registrant as the owner.
