Wix Editor: Font Flashes and Changes When Site Loads

1 min
The flashing of your site's font is related to a common web design issue called Flash of Unstyled Content (FOUC).

About Flash of Unstyled Content (FOUC)

FOUC is not unique to the Wix platform. Rather is it related to how certain browsers load content and which fonts are native to that browser (i.e., default fonts that a browser uses before they recognize a font).
Your chosen font exists in a Cascading Style Sheet (CSS), along with many other style components of your site. When your browser first loads your site, to save time, it initially loads the text using the browser's native fonts. Only after the CSS loads, does the text change to the font that you chose.
This issue is either more or less noticeable depending on:
  • The font that you chose
  • Your internet connection speed

How You Can Avoid FOUC

You can avoid this issue by minimizing the use heavily designed fonts, and trying to stick to simpler fonts that are native to majority of browsers.
Another option is to upload your text as an image, however this text cannot be scanned for SEO purposes.
Note:
We, at Wix, and web designers in general, are aware of this issue and are continuously striving to find solutions to general internet or browser related issues such as this one. We will continue to investigate and develop our technology to help resolve these issues in the future.
