Default URL Redirects (301 Redirects)

1 min read
A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect from one URL to another. While it's highly recommended to set these up when moving your site to a new domain, or when changing internal page URLs, there are some 301 redirects which Wix does for you by default.

Wix automatically redirects the following for you:

  • Redirects to www: Wix automatically adds "www" when someone enters your domain in the address bar without it. For example, if someone types "mystunningwebsite.com" Wix automatically redirects to "www.mystunningwebsite.com".
  • From the free Wix URL: Every Wix site comes with a free Wix URL (accountname.wixsite.com/siteaddress). Even after you upgrade and connect your own domain, if someone enters this URL, Wix redirects them to your site on your domain.
  • Redirects to HTTPS: For security purposes, whenever anyone writes HTTP in front of your domain name, instead of HTTPS, Wix automatically redirects to the HTTPS URL.
  • Multiple connected domains: Wix allows you to connect multiple domains to your site (e.g., a primary and a secondary). Whenever someone enters one of your URLs on a secondary domain, they are automatically redirected to the corresponding URL on your primary domain.
