About 3D Secure (3DS) Payments with Third-Party Payment Providers

Important:
Wix does not control the lifecycle of a payment. If you use a third-party payment provider, we pass the payment request to the provider for them to process the transaction. It is the responsibility of the provider to have the required features to support the payment flow.
3D Secure (3DS) is a security measure to make it safer for customers to shop online with card payments.
To provide an added layer of security against fraudulent transactions, the 3DS protocol requires customers to undergo an extra verification process. This is done in collaboration with their card issuer while making a payment.

The process involves 3 main parties:
  • The card issuer (Visa, Mastercard...etc)
  • The acquiring bank (which processes the payment)
  • The payment gateway that facilitates the transaction (your payment provider)
As part of this process, customers are directed to an authentication page on their bank's website. Here, they are prompted to input either a password linked to their card, or a code sent to their mobile device. This ensures that the customer's identity is authenticated before the transaction is authorized.

Accepting 3DS Payments in Wix

3DS is supported at Wix. However, each payment provider decides whether they wish to implement 3DS while integrating with us. Therefore, if you wish to accept 3DS payments in Wix, we recommend you contact your provider directly and confirm with them whether they have implemented 3DS as part of their Wix integration.
