Wix Stores: Collecting Tax in Home Rule States Using Avalara
A "home rule state" is a state in the US that has cities, counties, or special tax jurisdictions with self-administered local tax authorities. These authorities collect tax independently from their states.
Home rule states include:
- Alabama
- Alaska*
- Arizona
- Colorado
- Idaho
- Louisiana
*For stores based in Alaska:
To calculate tax correctly in Alaska, you will be prompted during setup to specify an Alaskan city or county.
Important:
Consult with an accountant or with your local tax authority to check if home rule regulations apply to your store.
When you use Avalara automated tax in these states, you might need to provide more specific information about your tax jurisdiction, in addition to the information you provided during setup in the Wix dashboard. Learn more in Avalara
