Wix Forms: Adding and Managing Rules

Rules improve the way you collect form information based on your visitor responses. Your visitor's input in one field in the form can determine if another field should be shown, hidden, required or optional. 
For example, you can make the Email field optional if your visitor has already filled in their phone number.

Adding a New Rule

Each rule includes a condition and an action: If your visitor fills a certain field or leaves it blank (condition), another field in your form reacts accordingly (action). If you have fields with multiple selection, you can make your form react to a specific selection your visitor makes. 
Important:
You can add up to 3 rules when using Wix Forms for free. To get more, upgrade to a Premium plan

To add a new rule:

  1. Select the relevant form or add a new form in your Editor. 
  2. Click Form Settings
  3. Click Form Conditions
  4. Click + Add New Rule.
  5. Set up the condition for your rule under If:
    1. Select a field from the dropdown menu under This field
    2. Select an option under Is:
      • Filled: The rule is triggered whenever a visitor fills in the field with information. 
      • Not Filled: The rule is triggered whenever a visitor leaves the field empty. 
  6. Decide on your form's behavior under Then
    1. Select a field from the dropdown menu under This field(s)
    2. Based on your visitor's input, select an option under Is:
      • Shown: The field appears. 
      • Hidden: The field becomes hidden. 
      • Optional: This field isn't mandatory to submit the form. 
      • Required: Your visitor must fill this field in order to submit the form.  
  7.  Click Save Rule.
Tip:
See your new rule in action by previewing or publishing your site. 

Managing Your Form Rules

After creating rules for your form, manage them from the same place in Form Settings. Edit a rule, duplicate it to create a similar one or delete it if you no longer need it. You can also pause a rule temporarily if you prefer keeping it in your list.  

To manage your rules:

  1. Select the relevant form in your Editor.
  2. Click Form Settings.
  3. Click Form Conditions.
  4. Hover over the rule you want to manage and click the Show More icon  .
  5. Manage your rule by doing one of the following:

Troubleshooting Form Rules

If a rule on your list is greyed out, it means that it's currently disabled. Hover over the rule to see why, then search for the solution below:
