Studio Two Editor: Exporting and Importing Site Code Files

4 min
Important:
  • This article refers to the new Studio Two Editor, released in November 2026. If you're unsure whether you’re using the Studio Editor or the Studio Two Editor, view more information here.

  • The Import/Export feature is currently in Beta, and is subject to change.

Creating a site in the Studio Two Editor generates a standard React code that can be read, written, and hosted by most external platforms.

This means you can host, adjust, and deploy the site's code files across infrastructures, and re-import edited code or custom components to the site.

Important information

There are some important things to keep in mind before exporting and re-importing a site's code:

Editor changes and re-exports

The code is a one-time snapshot of the site at the time of export, and is not synced to further changes you make in the Studio Two Editor. If you want an updated version of the code, you need to re-export it.

However, re-exporting a site's code into the same folder removes any local changes you have made to the code. In order to prevent this, you can:

  • Back up your local changes

  • Re-export the code to a new folder

Editor changes and imports

Importing code to a site removes changes you made in the Studio Two Editor after the original export.

For example, imagine you export a site's code and edit it on your chosen platform. In the meantime, you also add new pages to the site from the Studio Two Editor. When you re-import the site's code, those pages are removed (as they're not in the code files).

We therefore recommend making changes in your editor either before you export the site's code files, or after you have re-imported them.

Getting started

In order to manually export and import the site's code files with the terminal, you need to have the following installed and set up on your device:

  • Node.js (version 24.18 or later).

  • The Wix CLI (installed and logged in to your Wix account).

  • The site export commands, added to the Wix CLI with the origami flow.

  • A Studio Two site that you can access and edit, unless you're creating a new one.

Exporting a site as code

Export the site as code from your editor. You can choose whether to export it to an agent, or do it manually via the terminal.

To export the site code:

  1. Go to your editor.

  2. Click the Studio Two dropdown at the top-left of the editor.

  3. Hover over Site, then hover over Export/Import.

  4. Click Export Site Code.

  5. Choose how you want to export the site's code:

    • Export to: Click the AI agent you want to directly export the site code to. This opens the agent on your device, and automatically pastes the prompt into the field.

    • Use an external agent: Click Copy Prompt to paste it into your preferred agent.

    • Do it manually: Copy the prompts and paste them into the terminal.

Importing code to the site

Import the code you want to the Studio Two Editor. This can be site files you previously exported and edited, or content you've generated on external platforms. Learn more about importing site code.

To import code to the site:

  1. (In the relevant terminal / platform) Add the content / code you have generated to the exported site's folder.

  2. Go to your editor.

  3. Click the Studio Two dropdown at the top-left of the editor.

  4. Hover over Site, then hover over Export/Import.

  5. Click Import Site Code.

  6. Copy the command in the Import tab of the panel.

  7. Paste it into the relevant folder in the terminal.

Good to know:

Your imported code is only saved in the Studio Two Editor, not published. Make sure to review the content before publishing the code updates.
