Displaying an Order Cancellation Button on Your Site

In this article
  • Displaying an order cancellation button
  • Compliance considerations for merchants
As of June 19, 2026, merchants selling in the EU are required to display an order cancellation button on retail sites.
To stay in compliance, you need to clearly display a cancellation button that allows customers to submit a request to cancel their order.
Important:
Check local regulations to make sure your order cancellation button solution is compliant. The information below is provided for general guidance only and does not constitute legal advice.

Displaying an order cancellation button

You can add an order cancellation option to your site by adding a button that links to a form.
  1. Add a page to your site.
  2. Add a form to the page.
  3. Edit the text to make this an order cancellation request form.
  4. Add a button to your site.
  5. Edit the button text to something like "Cancel a Contract".
Tip: Check local regulations to see if specific text is required.
  6. Link the button to the page you created in step 1.

Compliance considerations for merchants

When adding an order cancellation button, make sure your solution complies with all relevant local regulations.

Two-step cancellation process

The cancellation button should open a dedicated cancellation request form where customers can specify which order or contract they want to cancel.
The form should collect enough information to identify the order, such as:
  • Customer name
  • Email address
  • Order number
  • Order date (if applicable)
After completing the form, customers should confirm their request with a final action, for example, by clicking a  Submit cancellation request button. This completes the cancellation request.

No login required

Customers should be able to submit a cancellation request without creating an account or logging in. Guest customers must have the same ability to submit a cancellation request electronically as registered customers.

Immediate electronic confirmation

After submitting a cancellation request, customers should immediately receive an electronic confirmation that their request was received. Make sure your chosen solution provides this confirmation where required by local law.

High visibility and accessibility

Make sure the cancellation button is clearly visible and easy to find throughout the cancellation period. Do not place it somewhere customers need to click through multiple pages, account areas, or complex menus to access it.
