Understanding site hierarchy
Your site's hierarchy, meaning its structure, helps search engines and AI tools understand how your site is organized, and the relationship between pages. Search engines tend to rank pages higher in search results that are closest in relation to your homepage, so it's important to position your pages correctly within your hierarchy.
Defining a hierarchical site structure requires setting up a parent - child relationship between your site's main pages. A parent page is a top-level page with child pages nested under it. Your site's hierarchy is represented through URLs.
For example, you could set your parent page to be "About Our Customers" and a child page to be "Customer Stories". The URL for this structure may look like this:
www.mydomain.com/about-our-customers/customer-stories.
Defining your site's hierarchy
You can adjust the relationship and positioning of your site's main pages from
SEO Settings in the dashboard, or from the
SEO Basics panel in your editor. Begin by selecting the page you want to become a child page, and then choose its parent.
To set a page as a parent page:

- Go to SEO & GEO in your site's dashboard.
- Scroll down to Tools and settings.
- Click SEO Settings.
- Click Main Pages.
- Click the Edit next to the relevant page.
- Click the Parent page (site hierarchy) drop-down and select a parent page.
