Creating a Secure Password and Keeping Your Wix Account Secure

2 min read
We highly recommend taking any and all actions in order to improve the safety of your Wix account and personal information.

Tips for creating a secure Wix password

We recommend the following tips for creating the most secure password for your Wix account:
  • Choose a password that contains at least 8-12 characters.
  • Do not include any parts of your name (first and last) in your password, or anything related to your personal info.
  • Make sure to include at least 3 out of the 4 character types:
    • Lowercase letters
    • Uppercase letters
    • Numbers
    • Symbols
  • Use a unique password for Wix. Do not use a password that is used for other applications, such as your regular email account.
  • Consider using a password manager and an automatic password generator to create safe and secure passwords.
  • Make your password a passphrase of at least 12 characters. We recommend using an easy-to-remember sentence that includes numbers and special characters. For example, you could use the first 2 letters of each word of a sentence to create an even stronger password.
  • Use the Wix Password Strength Indicator to measure the safety of your password. The indicator prompts you to create a tough-to-break password that has extra characters and symbols. The colored bar at the top of the indicator updates you on the strength of your password as you create it.

Tips for keeping your Wix account secure

We recommend the following tips for keeping your Wix account secure:
  • Keep your login information private. Share your login information with trusted sources only.
  • Enable 2-Step verification to add an extra layer of security to your account.
  • If multiple people are working on your Wix site, consider adding them as site collaborators, rather than sharing your password.
  • Make sure to lock and password protect your computer. We suggest enabling automatic locking of your computer if it’s unattended for 5 minutes (e.g. lock on screensaver).
  • Sign out of your Wix and email accounts if you are using a shared browser.
  • Do not allow your browser to save your password if you are using a shared browser.
  • Add a Recovery Phone Number to help you recover your account in the event you have forgotten, or lost access to your email.
