CMS Request: Adding Repeatable Groups of Fields (Nested Lists) to Collections

Collecting votes
Currently, the CMS lets you add basic field types to your collections, such as text, images, numbers, and boolean fields. You can also connect one collection to another using the ‘Reference’ and ‘Multi-reference’ field types. However, collections do not support creating a field where you can add a repeatable group of fields within a single item. With this feature, you would be able to add a custom group of multiple fields, and then create a list of these groups for each item in your collection.

For example, you would be able to add an "Icon List" field to your collection. Each item in this list could include an image and a short description. In one entry, you might add three icons. In another entry, you might add ten. All icons would be managed together inside the same collection item.

This feature would help you organize and manage complex or flexible content without needing separate collections or additional references.
Workarounds:
  • Use a 'Rich Content' field for grouped or dynamic content: Add a 'Rich Content' field to your collection. This field lets you combine formatted text, images, galleries, buttons, and other elements in a single field. You can set up different layouts or content blocks for each item in your collection. Then, add the rich content element to your page and connect it to your 'Rich Content' collection field. You can attach the rich content element to a repeater to show unique content for each repeater item.
  • Use a 'Media Gallery' field for multiple images or icons: Add a 'Media Gallery' field to your collection. This field allows you to store several images or videos for each collection item. To display these images on your site, add a gallery to your page (e.g. the dynamic item page) and connect it to your collection’s 'Media Gallery' field. Each collection item will display its set of media inside the gallery.
Tip:
These workarounds let you create and display lists or grouped content, such as icons with text or image galleries. However, the content is not organized as separate, structured groups of fields. If you need more structure, you can use 'Reference' or 'Multi-reference' fields to connect to another collection, but this takes more setup.
