What is your page's title tag?
Your page's title tag is a meta tag. It is used as the headline of each page. The title tag is not visible on your page but appears in the source code of the page, where it is visible to search engines.
Your page's title tag is also used:
- When saving to favorites
- When sharing your page on Facebook/Google+ and other social platforms
- In the browser tab (see image below)

Tips for writing your title tag:
- The title tag should be between 55-60 characters, spaces included.
- Adding your business name to your title tag is a good idea.
- If you have a physical location or locations, include your city/ state/ county/ suburb.
- Local information helps Search Engines to direct local users, attracting more visits from local searches.
- Try incorporating your most relevant search phrase into your title tag i.e. the word you think a client would type into a search engine to find your site.
- Make sure your title tag is easy to read and attractive - a relevant and descriptive title tag is more likely to 'convince' users to click it in search results.
- Use the pipe sign (|) to distinguish different parts in your title tag.
Title example: Hair by Allan | Hairstylist in La Verne, Los Angeles
Note:
When your site is loading, the site name is displayed in your browser bar. Once your site has loaded, the title tag is displayed. If you do not want there to be any change in the browser bar when your site is loading, simply make the title tag and site name identical.
