Removing a Domain in Order to Close Your Wix Account

It is not possible to close a Wix account while it contains a registered domain. Before you close your account, make sure that there are no registered domains connected to your account.
You can keep your domain by transferring it away from Wix, or turn off auto-renewal and wait for the domain to expire.
Important:
If you choose to cancel your Wix domain subscription (turn off auto-renewal), you must wait until the domain expires and is out of the redemption period before closing your account. This process can take up to 80 days. Learn more about domain redemption periods.
Removing a domain purchased from Wix
You can remove a Wix domain from your account in two ways:
- Transfer your domain to another host: You can keep your domain by transferring it away from Wix. Once the domain is transferred, you can close your account.
- Cancel your domain: If you no longer need your domain, turn off auto-renewal and wait for the domain to expire. Once the domain is released from the registry, you can close your account.
To transfer your domain away from Wix:
- Go to Domains in your Wix account.
- Click the Domain Actions icon
next to the relevant domain. - Select Transfer away from Wix.
- Click Transfer Domain after reviewing the information on screen.
- Click I Still Want to Transfer.
What's next?
As soon as you click I Still Want to Transfer, we’ll send a transfer authorization code (EPP code) to your email address. Once you get the code, follow the instructions from your new domain provider to transfer your domain. The transfer process may take up to 7 days.
To cancel your domain:
- Go to Premium Subscriptions in your Wix account.
- Click the More Actions icon
next to the relevant subscription. - Click Cancel Domain.
- Select Cancel auto renew and click Submit.
What's next?
You will not be charged for your next renewal, and your domain subscription will expire on the date shown on screen. Most domains will then go through a grace period and then a redemption period before you can close your account. We recommend setting a calendar reminder for the end of this period to remind you to close your account. Learn more about the domain life cycle.
Removing a domain purchased from another host
You can remove a domain purchased from another domain host which is connected to your Wix account. Your domain settings will no longer be managed by Wix. You can manage DNS settings with the domain host you purchased your domain from.
To remove your domain from Wix:
- Go to Domains in your Wix account.
- Click the Domain Actions icon next to the relevant domain.
- Select Remove from Wix.
- Click Remove Domain
