What is Wix?

Why did we create Wix?
All of us here at Wix believe that users are craving for means of "advanced self-expression" using rich media on the web. We decided to create Wix so that anyone, not just graphic designers and programmers, will be able to easily create cool and customized web content.

I’ve connect my Wix site to it’s own domain. If I edit it, will it automatically update?
Yes! Editing published Wix sites and widgets that are connected to their own domain is like every Wix creation: anytime you edit and save a previously published Wix, it will be automatically updated in all its published locations.
On what platforms can I publish my Wix creations?
You can publish your content as a wix.com site, as an email or embed it in a social network profile or any other site that supports embedding.

Can I replace the Wix Favicon with my own?

Why cant I type the @ ?
When you encounter typing problems, it is recommended to write/paste your desired text or email address in a simple notepad and then copy/paste it to the desired place.
This recommendation is applicable to any part of Wix.
It is not recommended to copy/paste from word/exel docs since they sometime carry invisible characters.
How to fix a Login/saving problem?
If you encounter a consistent login/saving problem, you should first check if you encounter this problem in other browsers.
Also, please check if you have the latest flash version and try to clear your cache memory.
If you can, ask a friend with the same computer and browser in your area if he can try it for you and see if he gets the same results.
- In case that the problem is with your popup blocker.
please perform this test on FIREFOX to make sure:
go to the tools menu and click options, in the dialog that popsup choose the content tab.
click the button on the top right called "exceptions" (the top most), in the list that pops up you should see "www.wix.com" if its not there add it and also add “Wix.com”.
If "www.wix.com" and “Wix.com” was listed there is another test you to perform:
The top-most checkbox in the content section of the options dialog is called "block pop-up windows" , unselect it (just for a test and don’t forget to turn it back on) apply and go to wix.com, see if everything works.
This popup blocker check should be done for any browser you use.
- Another reason for saving/log-in problem in Wix may be due to the flash player settings.
So please check if your flash player settings are compatible.
When you are on the Wix.com homepage, Right click on mouse – settings.
The flash settings box will open, go to the middle tab: local storage – and make sure you have at least 1mb for use. It is also recommended to check the left tab: display, and enable hardware acceleration.
- You should also check if you have a flash cookie problem.

- Some browsers/versions will encounter problems with the latest flash version.
So you will need to downgrade your flash version.
Due to recent enhancements to the Adobe Flash Player installers, you can now remove the player only by using the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller here:

If all these options do not help your login problem, please send us a description of the problem and your system info:
1. Operating System
2. Browser and version
3. Wix Editor version (bottom left side of the editor in blue - before any action was taken)
4. Flash version
5. If the problem is a saving one, we will also need to know exactly what you tried to save so we can try to reproduce the same problem.
How do I work on my Wix doc offline?
It will not be possible to save a copy of Wix to your PC, or to work offline on your Wix doc in other design softwares.
But there is one way to see/present your Wix doc offline:
Login as usual, go to the editor and open your work in the editor.
Since the editor is the only part of Wix that uses the cache memory – you have to open each and every page of your work.
Then, you ‘preview’ your work from inside the editor – and disconnect from the web.
Your doc should stay in your computer, as long as you don’t close the browser windows.
Since some operating systems and computers have different behaviors, it is recommended to check this first.
Is Wix a search engine friendly format?
Every Wix creation has a code layer that presents it to the search engines easily.
But to improve your Search Engine Optimization even more: go to the top menu in your editor– file- settings, and fill the:
Title- Tags and Description box according to your requirements.
And –mark- your need for your website to be search engine friendly.

Does my Wix doc have a Sitemap?
Every Wix creation has an XML sitemap that helps its content to be recognized by search engines and in the future - Analytics and BI.
If you need a navigation sitemap for your website visitors - then no, there is no auto feature like that in Wix, but you can simply create one just like you design any of the other pages- and simply link the pages and areas by using the ‘go to…’ behavior.
Can I add HTML to my Wix doc?
It will not be possible to add Html code to your Wix design.
This is because Wix is flash based, so you will only be able to add what you design in Wix to HTML sites and not the other way around.
But, you will be able to add third party widgets to your Wix design in the future. Like the yahoo and Google: calendars, counters, clocks, games etc.
Some of these widgets/forms will also be available in Wix itself in the very near future – like the Google maps that is already available.

Why when saving my Wix with a new name, do I get a "Name Already Taken" error?
Document names are unique. You can only have one document with a specific name. Note: Documents that were deleted from your account still confine their name. You would not be able to use it for a new document. But worry not. This does not affect the title of the document. Solution Try saving to a different name. If this did not solve the problem try to: Sign-in again with your email and password. Sometimes it seems you are logged in although the connection is lost. If this did not solve the problem try to: Close your Wix and clear the browsers cache. Then go back in and try to save again.
What is my Wix doc URL and how to use it?
Your Wix doc URL is the one that you get when you ‘view’ your doc in ‘my account’.

If you want to use it/send it, Simply copy it until the ? mark.
If you want to change/shorten it then, you can change the username part in ‘settings’ in ‘ my account’.
And change the doc name part by re-saving your doc name to the shortest one most appropriate to your needs.
You can also change the domain name of your Wix doc by buying your own domain name and linking it to your Wix doc.

How to use PayPal in my Wix doc?
Until the PayPal option is available directly in the Wix editor, the safest way for you to use it is to link your Wix to your personal PayPal page.
Can I upload Gifs to my Wix account?
It will not be possible to use/upload animated GIFs in Wix.
But you can upload any animated/moving SWF file you need to your media library.
The other visual formats you can upload to Wix are JPG and PNG.
We will update you as soon as other formats are available.
Why am I having troubles with the Wix Forum login?
The forum login is not based on the Wix.com login info!
So the ‘forgot password’ in Wix.com will not help you with the forum login.
You will have to signup separately to the forum.
This is done to prevent the forum from been flooded with spam users.
