I spent the last few days asking our top designers to share there deepest darkest secrets…Ok, so I asked them to reveal 5 secrets to help you maximise the effectiveness of your business’s MySpace Profile.

They’re so simple and yet so effective:

1.Carefully Choose your URL Choosing your URL when you sign up to MySpace.com is one of the most important steps of the web design process.

To maximise the impact of your business on MySpace aim for URL like this: myspace.com/yourbusinessname. You may also want to create a second profile like this: myspace.com/yourkeywords.

2.Consider using a Photo instead of your logo The profile page offers you the chance to upload an image. Often people upload their logos to represent their business. We recommend a photo of a person, or your team. Why? You’re much more likely to have your friend requests accepted if you have a face representing you instead of a logo.

3.Check out your Other Businesses – Not just your competitors Too often we get stuck in our own market. There are a lot of great ideas in other industries that can work for ours as well. Check out different businesses on MySpace. Pay special attention to businesses on MySpace with a lot of friends – they’re likely doing something right.

4.Design it your way – Take advantage of Fully Editable Layouts Whether you’ve chosen to customize one of the Wix fully editable sample layouts, to start from scratch, or use another platform, choose a path allows you to have the look, feel and format you desire – and one that sets you apart from your competition.

5.Add Friends To truly maximise your business on MySpace, a large friend-base is key. The more friends you have on MySpace, the larger audience you have to market your products and services to.

One quick way to add friends is to start sending out friend requests to people. Use the advanced search & browse functions to narrow in on whom you want. On average, one-third will accept your request. You can do this manually, but make sure not to do more than 200 a day. There are also some automatic friend adders to help speed up the process.

Now you’re ready to move onto thinking about marketing your free MySpace layouts…
