With access to millions of potential fans scattered across the globe you may never have reached and record labels looking to discover the next big thing, it’s worth making the effort to promote your music on MySpace. But it doesn’t need to be difficult!

Here are 6 easy steps to create an online buzz for your music by promoting your music on MySpace:

1. Upload your Best Music

You probably already know this but here goes in case: When you join MySpace with an Artist profile you get to upload MP3 song files and add them to your profile. You also get the option of adding your lyrics and giving users the ability to download your MP3s, or add your songs to their own MySpace profiles. You can also have one of the songs automatically play whenever someone options your profile.

2. Design a Unique free MySpace Layouts

It isn’t just about your music. Ok it is, but it’s a good idea to sync your music to your look…for instance, consider using features in your album cover, or adding art you love! And then there is the player for your music. It doesn’t need to look like the default one. If you take a quick look in the Wix.com’s editor you’ll find a few other types of cool players...as well as some other features to help you create a layout that puts your visitors in the mood from the word go.

3. Send Comments

There are many reason to send comments, for instance, you may want to plug a new song or gig. Another good time to send comments is when someone adds you as their friend. Why not send them a comment saying “thank you” on their page and invite them to visit anytime to listen to new songs, check out gigs and so forth. By sending them a comment you are also exposing your music and profile to a wider audience – to friends of friends!

4. Send Bulletins

Like sending out an email blast, you can tell all your MySpace friends about your next gigs, tours, album and single releases by posting a MySpace bulletin. You may also like to use bulletins to invite friends to listen to your new songs, and ask them to add their favorite song to their own profiles. You can spice it up by creating a cool e-flyer (Wix.com has some templates to customize) and attaching it to your bulletin.

Just remember not to send out too many bulletins. Or your friends may be turned off…

5. Search & Add Friends

Use the search and browse features available on MySpace to find potential fans. There are many features you can search for – from location, age, music genres, networks…to checking out the friends of artists like you or artists you love. When you’ve found potential friends, send them messages introducing yourself & inviting them to listen to your music or send them a friend requests. Messages are the less intrusive and more personal ask.

6. Promote Your MySpace Everywhere

Remember to promote your MySpace profile URL in all your marketing and communications. Put it on your email signatures, websites, business cards, gig flyers, cds…anywhere you plug your website you should plug your MySpace profile URL too!
